Summer Camp Vlasina 2019

ONLY WHAT YOU GIVE TRULY BELONGS TO YOU

In cooperation with the Trag foundation and the social institution Center for family accommodation and adoption from Niš, the Jedi Movement Nis is organizing a fund-raiser for the realization of the project „THE FORCE FAVOURS THE BRAVE“ – Vlasina 2019.

In the Nis region, more than 600 boys and girls are placed in foster homes. We believe that they, who were not spared by life, if they are correctly steered can become leaders and activists, who will bravely tackle community problems.

We will organize a 7-day summer camp in the first half of August on the beautiful Vlasina lake for them. This will be our reward to those children with excellent school results and extra-curricular activities. Here,  we will work on the development of their potential.

We were given the unique opportunity to craft the program that will help those in hard times, so that they are empowered to become the problem-solvers of the community and their own lives.

Our initiative was recognized by the Trag foundation and the  Center for family accommodation and adoption. Join our story!

IMPORTANT!

If we manage to raise 334.549 RSD by July 15, it will enable us to realize our project goal – raising enough money, aimed at the realization of the Camp „The Force Favours the Brave“ – Vlasina 2019, for 10 children living in foster homes.

THE PROBLEM WE‘RE TACKLING

According to data from the State Social Protection Institute, a small number of children and youth from children‘s homes attend elementary and high-schools (36%) and special needs elementary and high-schools (22%), with only a fraction of the children (3%) continuing their higher educational path. It is worrying that only 18% of the children are signed up for high-schools, while less than 3% attend a vocational course. Less than 5% of the children have finished school and are looking for work.

Taking into account the age of the children and their behavioral issues, a significant personal dedication in the field of education cannot be expected without the encouragement and assistance of adults. Education is the strongest foundation for further development and independence of children without parental care.

OUR APPROACH TO THE PROBLEM

Our idea is to start positive transformation in these young people (aged 15 through 21), empowering them through the program that encompasses interactive workshops on the topics of healthy lifestyle, creative industries, ecology, entrepreneurship and sport.

The goal is for camp participants to recognize their own potential, start building a network of contacts and get the chance to become activist of the Jedi Movement or any other association that would support their further development. In this manner, they will be empowered to directly participate in the promotion of the right values in their environment.

We plan to achieve these goals through the realization of the following activities:

  • Workshops on cognitive and social skills (efficient problem-solving strategies, non-aggressive reactions to provocations)
  • Working on stress-coping skills
  • Assistance in learning and obtaining new knowledge, test assistance, class and entrance exams help
  • Motivation for the discovery and use of own talents and potential
  • Further education encouragement
  • Improving personal capacities and empowerment

GET TO KNOW THE JEDI MOVEMENT

At the beginning of November 2013, we established the Jedi Movement with a sole purpose: to make peace and prosperity sustainable in our community, with a focus on raising awareness and encouraging activism. We opted for using activities in the field of culture, sport, ecology, entrepreneurship and education to motivate people to get involved in governance and decision-making in our local community, aiming to raise awareness of the fact that ALL BIG CHANGES BEGIN WITH US.

This project is aimed at providing the opportunity for a group of exceptional young people to develop new life skills through fun and learning activities, in the clean and wonderful environment of the Vlasina lake. It also aims to raise community awareness on the existence of these young people and the problems they face on a daily basis.

Thank you for the time dedicated to studying our proposal. We hope we will successfully cooperate on the light side of the Force.

Best regards,
Miloš Antić
Founder and President of the Movement

Activities

Positive Festival (Festival PozitivNi) May 31st – June 2nd 2019

During the Positive festival (May 31st – June 2nd), all members of Jedi movement were present, wearing costumes. We collected donations, took photos with visitors, and had an exhibition of figurines as well as a quiz and workshops for children.

Protectors of the Fortress Festival (Zaštitnici Tvrđave)- June 14th -16th 2019

When Jedi knights and Knights of the glorious past find themselves gathered together, there can be nothing but chivalry. Jedi movement had their booth right next to the camping tents. Apart from the visitors, the organizers of the festival (Association Dragon’s Mane) also donated certain funds for our humane mission.

Maze Rage Race in Jelasnica – June 15th 2019

This time we Jedi divided ourselves in two groups – the first, who showed how strong the Force was inside us as we took part in the race, and the second, who gave their contribution by collecting donations at the booth. The organizers of this race supported our activities and announced our presence multiple times, so we use this opportunity to thank them.

Apart from these events, we also had our booth at the celebration of 30 years’ anniversary of the Dancing club Swing at the National Theatre (June 20th), at the concert of the violinist Nemanja Radulović (June 25th), Russian Night (June 26th) and Nisomnia Festival (June 30th). During these evenings, certain funds were also collected.
